Few days later...

A.J. is finished with kindergarten. Somehow, he lost the shoe he was wearing. Who knows? His cast came off yesterday. His heel healed well. He's walking around already. That surprised me. I figured it would take a couple of days. But he's not even limping.

Now for the Mema update. My Grandaddy said she's just lying there peacefully. She's not moving, and she's not responding to anyone or anything. They have run a lot of tests, but can't figure out why she is still in the state she's in. My Grandaddy is going to talk to her doctor. She has had heart problems in the past. Not real problems, but she gave up caffeine because it would make her heartbeat erratic. Grandaddy thinks maybe that has something to do with it. "Something must be triggering it," he told me. I'm worried. It almost sounds like she's giving up. She was going to have a tracheotomy today, but the surgeon decided that he would feel more comfortable doing it if her blood was more stable. Normally, they won't let patients stay on a respirator from more than ten days because of permanent damage to the voice box. Today is day eleven. If they do the trach, it will be next week. Well, we knew the odds of her going on the respirator. 92% of patients never get off it. From the time she was diagnosed, the odds were against her. My problem now is that she had beaten the leukemia, so why did this have to happen?

It seems that I forgot to republish this entry on Friday. Sorry!
